A Quilt's Journey Home
Imagine a quilt, lost to time, finding its way back to its original family. That's exactly what happened recently, highlighting the deep connections and stories stitched into every piece of fabric. It's a beautiful reminder of how quilts are more than just blankets—they're family heirlooms, storytellers, and keepers of memories. Curious about this heartwarming tale? Stitching Among the Stars
Ever thought quilting was strictly an Earth-bound activity? Think again! Astronaut Karen Nyberg, known for her quilting adventures aboard the International Space Station, has launched "The Next Giant Leap: Lunar Quilt Block Challenge." This out-of-this-world initiative invites U.S. students (grades 7-12) and crafters to create moon-themed quilt blocks. Selected pieces from each state will be assembled into a "Lunar Quilt," set to be displayed at the Kennedy Center for Performing Arts in Washington, D.C., during the "Earth to Space: Arts Breaking the Sky" festival in spring 2025. Do you know a young quilter who is ready to shoot for the moon? Read all about it at Space.com.
Honoring Heroes, One Quilt at a Time
In Kimberling City, Missouri, the Quilts of Valor Foundation's Ozarks chapter recently wrapped local veterans in handcrafted quilts during a heartfelt Veterans Day ceremony. Starting with just six members in early 2024, this dedicated group has grown to 40 volunteers, producing 101 quilts in just eight months. Talk about stitching with purpose! Watch the YouTube video to see the story and the beautifully made quilts. The Quilts of Valor Foundation continues to encourage nominations for veterans nationwide to receive these meaningful gifts.
